UPDATE 2:30PM: AVUSD has released an official statement saying that at around 12:30 pm today a call was made to the Apple Valley Sheriff's Department reporting a threat of an apparent weapon on campus at Apple Valley High School. Apple Valley Police took the lead and with the support of school administration and AVUSD district police followed the established safety protocols. Students were at lunch and quickly moved indoors while we established that the campus was completely safe and secure.
After thorough investigation, the threat was determined to be unfounded. The same phone number that reported to the Sheriff’s Department today has been connected to a previous hoax incident at another high school in San Bernardino County. As in all cases, the district says they followed a well established protocol to ensure the safety of students and staff. The district reminds people that "in all cases, if you see something, hear something, or sense something, say something."
UPDATE 1:56 PM: AVUSD officials are telling HD Daily News that the lockdown has been lifted and have confirmed that students have returned to class. AVUSD says that the campus is now clear. The report of a weapon on campus is unfounded. Dismissal will follow as normal.
