On Monday night, just before 12:00 a.m., fire crews in Apple Valley were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the area of Yucca Loma and Rancherias.
When the fire department arrived they immediately discovered heavy fire coming from two windows of a second-floor apartment unit. The department determined it was a second alarm response which resulted in a request through ConFire Dispatch while an aggressive fire attack had been performed. Firefighters immediately began evacuating people from the adjoining units as well as begin a search of the unit involved.
Due to the aggressive actions of emergency crews, the fire had been contained to the unit it started in and no injuries occurred to people or fire crews. The second alarm units responding from San Bernardino County, Cal Fire and the City of Victorville covered other district fire stations while crews continued to perform salvage, overhaul and the investigation processes.
Apple Valley Fire Protection District estimates about $200,000.00 in damages, however, the amount of saved personal loss to the adjoining units is much larger due to actions of the crews.
reports say that five adults had been displaced and unfortunately two pets perished in the fire.
Other assisting agencies included: San Bernardino County Sheriffs, Southern California Edison, Animal Control, the Red Cross and the Gas Company.
