Organized Retail Theft Uncovered by Local Deputy

Deputy B. Moreland from the Victorville Police Department conducted a traffic stop for expired registration on February 10, 2021. During the routine traffic stop, Moreland discovered some unusual items including some high-end vacuum cleaners in the vehicle. It was determined the vacuums had been stolen from a local retail store, and the driver, Anthony Hope, and a passenger, Joseph Williams, were detained.

Later on, through through an extensive investigation, Deputy Moreland learned Joseph Williams had been involved in multiple burglaries around the Victor Valley. The suspect had stolen property from multiple stores only to later be sold to Samantha Neal. Neal would then store the stolen merchandise and sell it from a room she rented at the Green Spot Motel in Victorville.

A search warrant was authored and granted for the motel room. On February 18, 2021, Deputy Moreland served the search warrant and discovered a large number of stolen items, including laptop computers, toys, cosmetics, tools, clothing, hoverboards, cameras, and more. Samantha Neal arrived at the motel while the search was underway and was detained.

Williams, Neal, and Hope were arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center for organized retail theft, burglary, grand theft, and conspiracy to commit a crime. Several retailers were contacted and recovered stolen merchandise.
