Hello my friends, this is Dr. Paul Anthony Courtney, elected Mayor of the City of Barstow. As a local businessman and entrepreneur I recognized early on that in order for our City to remain competitive in these tough economic times, we must continue to grow our private sector industries in order to provide livable and sustainable wages for our residents.

The Council and I are committed to the vision of making certain that Barstow is known as a business friendly community, rich in the opportunities to capture the economic potential of over 60 million travelers that pass through our City annually.

National Geographic ranked the Mojave Desert as one of the top 100 places to visit worldwide, with the City of Barstow being strategically located halfway between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Nestled south of the Calico Mountains, Barstow serves as the gateway to Las Vegas, Death Valley, the Colorado River, and the Mojave National Preserve.

Travelers will find rock climbing, camping, and off-road activities available at the famous Rainbow Basin and Owl Canyon, as well as one of the nation's last historic Harvey Houses  where visitors will discover the rich history of our nation's railroad industry.

The Harvey House is home to our local railroad museum, Route 66 museum, and the official regional NASA/Goldstone Visitor Outreach Center.

Barstow proudly features the longest and one of the last remaining functioning Main Streets along historic Route 66, where travelers from all over the world are invited to get their kicks on Route 66.

The World Famous Barstow Outlets provide retail opportunities for local residents, travelers and international tourists by providing brand name products at affordable prices.

As Mayor, I will continue to work with our City Council to bring longterm economic opportunities to our region by streamlining regulations for businesses, capitalizing on our region as a major transportation hub, and marketing our available land for manufacturing and industrial development to venture capitalists who share in our vision of building a better Barstow!

We continue to promote our Opportunity Zones for qualified businesses to take advantage of tax incentive deferrals and reductions while paving the way for investment in economically distressed areas.

We welcome the many businesses that have recently opened throughout our community as Covid19 positivity rates continue to decline, and recognize their tenacity in working against the odds to sustain our workforce.

I applaud our residents, our business community and local community leaders in working together to help our fellow neighbors through these difficult times, as we faced the challenges of a worldwide pandemic. We are Barstow Strong!
