Often times you'll hear the youth in the High Desert say "I'm bored, there's nothing to do." And that's not true. 2021 has some fun and exciting happenings that make spooky season all the more fun to get out and do things on a date, with family, or just trying to get some "me" time in. Here's our list of fun and local things to do during spooky season:

2021 TRUNK OR TREAT EXTRAVAGANZA

Halloween weekend, locals can take their kids to one of the biggest gatherings of candy around. Sunland Ford and El Dorado Broadcasters have teamed up to host this year's "2021 Trunk or Treat Extravaganza." Families of all ages are encouraged to attend the free event dressed in their favorite costumes.

Kids have the opportunity to trick or treat with numerous vendors on Halloween Street. There will also be a costume contest. Spooky, family friendly decorations, entertainment, and a photo booth will be part of the fun, however, it wouldn't be Halloween without some secret surprises which will also happen during the event. The safe trick or treating event happens on October 30th from 3pm-6pm at Sunland Ford on Palmdale Road.

PUMPKIN IN THE PINES AT SANTA'S VILLAGE

So we know it's not Christmas, but Santa is also getting in the spooky season spirit. Saturdays and Sundays, SkyPark at Santa’s Village is welcoming guests to a variety of fun weekend activities, from pumpkin patches to cookie decorating and crafts, to a community sponsored trick-or-treat event and costume party. Pumpkins in the Pines starts Saturday, October 9th and runs every weekend through October 31st. SkyPark at Santa’s Village is open Wednesdays through Sundays. Those interested in visiting can check the website for times of operation. Advanced reservations are no longer required. To get the best available rate and save time, people can purchase tickets online.

HOT ROD HALLOWEEN

Hesperia Recreation and Park District’s Hot Rod Halloween is back this year. The event will be on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Hesperia Civic Plaza Park, 15833 Smoke Tree Street from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is free to the community and there will be a car show, carnival games, food and craft vendors, the High-D Boys performing live and lots candy.

Interested in entering your car in the car show? Bring your spookiest hot rod for a chance to win the Halloween decorating contest. Car check-in will be on Saturday, October 30th from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and the registration fee is $20.00 per car. The Pre-Registration form is available at HesperiaParks.com, or can be done by cash only on the day of the event. All proceeds from the car show will go toward Hesperia Area Recreation District Foundation’s Rick Novack High School Scholarship.

HAUNTED HOUSE 18+

High Desert Haunted House is a year around attraction that tailors its fun around the different holidays and times of year, however, Halloween tends to have that extra touch of scary. Back by unpopular demand, their infamous and disastrous "EXTREME NIGHT." Please note that this is an adult only event. Visitors can expect crazy cursing, enraged, deranged, murderous monsters with an attitude, kidnapping, bagging, separating, touching, locked in, blood splattering, goop & gunk flying according to their Instagram profile. The haunted house attraction says it is purely an 18 and over experience that has a cult following. High Desert Haunted House encourages visitors to wear old clothes.

CHURCH OF THE VALLEY FALL FEST

Church of the Valley is hosting a Fall Fest in Apple Valley on Sunday, October 31, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. This is a free family event, featuring booths with food, games, and crafts. There will be live music and a trunk or treat. All activities will be outdoors (weather permitting). Event is located at 20700 Standing rock Avenue, Apple Valley.

Currently, Impossible Escape offers 4 escape rooms. The average experience is 60 minutes of solving puzzles, opening locks, and shared laughs in a fun themed environment. CITY OF BARSTOW TRUNK OR TREAT

The City of Barstow is hosting Trunk or Treat Wednesday, October 27th from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Cora Harper Fitness Center.

This is a drive-thru only. The city will be giving prizes for the top 3 costumes and having a "car-stume" contest (decorate your car, but it must be street legal). A QRL Code will be provided at the event for submission into the contest.

LUCERNE VALLEY TAILGATE TRICK OR TREAT

Halloween Tailgate Trick-or-Treat will be happening again this year. It is a safe and fun environment for the children of Lucerne Valley to come out in their best costume and have fun with hayrides, a haunted house, food, games and get candy. The event is put on by the Lucerne Valley Roadrunners. Free admission to the event. Tickets for games, food and rides will be on sale at the event.

FALL FESTIVAL OF OAK HILLS

Pumpkin patch, petting zoo, pony rides. Lots of vendors. Booth-or-treat with all booths be handing candy out to children. People can get their family photos taken at the photo booth for $1.00.  Face painter, pumpkin painting tables and more. The event takes place between October 14th - October 17th and is located at 6550 Caliente Road, Oak Hills, CA.  More info here.

STU MILLER'S SEASONAL PUMPKIN PATCH

The company's website says that their pumpkin patches are designed to be a fun, safe, family experience. Each of their lots has mechanical rides, games, petting zoo, inflatable jump house, giant inflatable slides, and huge inflatable obstacle courses. They have thousands of pumpkins of all shapes and sizes sitting on half bales surrounded by corn stalks, scarecrows and lots of happy smiling faces.
