UPDATE 12/23 at 1:45pm - The Victorville division of the California Highway Patrol have reported that nearly 5,000 toys have been collected this year for their annual "Chips for Kids" toy drive. The collected toys will now be distributed to less fortunate children and families around the Victor Valley.
Officials from the Victorville CHP office say that the donations are double what they were last year and the amount is also up from previous years.
Original story: Help give a happy holiday to Victor Valley families in need with the 2021 CHiPs 4 Kids Toy Drive.
The California Highway Patrol and the Chips for Kids Toy Drive have been helping to make the holidays merrier for children in the Victor Valley community since the early 1990s.
The department says that they always accept new toy donations throughout the year, but the official kickoff for collecting toys this year is on November 26 aka Black Friday.
On average, the California Highway Patrol in the High Desert community collects at least 5,000 toys.
Last year, the department had been unable to have their bowling fundraiser or regular collection sites outside of the local Walgreen store. That caused CHP to only collect half of that.
