The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department released very vague details on a deputy involved shooting that took place just before 2:45 in the morning yesterday.

The official press release says that a deputy from the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station conducted a traffic stop, near US Highway 395 and Cactus Road. For reasons unknown a foot pursuit happened. The department says that " A lethal force encounter occurred, and the suspect was pronounced deceased." The department also says that the suspect was unarmed.

California's Attorney General Rob Bonta has announced that the state's Department of Justice has taken over the investigation and "will independently review" the shooting in Adelanto. After a thorough investigation has been completed, California's top cop says that it will be turned over to the California Department of Justice's Special Prosecutions Section for independent review.

Information about how long the deputy has been with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department was not disclosed to HD Daily News by the department nor the California Attorney General's Office.

EDITOR'S NOTE: San Bernardino County Sheriff Shannon Dicus did a radio special with HD Daily News in March 2022 that detailed what's involved in a deputy involved shooting. That segment of the interview can be heard below:
