local vaccine sites

The pandemic is taking the lives of many Americans at a record speed. And for those that contract the deadly virus who live to tell about it, there are over 23 million stories (during the time this article was written) of symptoms that often times does not sound like a pleasant experience. The new vaccine may not necessarily be for the reader who is reading this very article right now, however, the vaccine is vital for those that really want to get it.

All San Bernardino County residents ages 65 and over are now eligible to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Which brings up another important question:

How do I get the vaccine if I live in the High Desert?

San Bernardino County has created an easy-to-follow "Phase & Tier" chart so individuals that are needing to get the vaccine have a better understanding when and where they will be able to register to get inoculated.

In San Bernardino County Phase 1A of vaccine distribution is currently active. And individuals who fall under Tier 1, 2 or 3  are allowed to register for the vaccine first. Individuals who are currently employed under the following places are currently eligible for the vaccine:

TIER 1

• Acute care, psychiatric and correctional facility hospitals

• Skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, and similar settings for older or medically vulnerable individuals

• Paramedics, EMTs and others providing emergency medical services

• Dialysis Centers

TIER 2

• Intermediate care, for persons who need non-continuous nursing supervision and supportive care

• Home health care and in-home supportive services

• Community health workers, including promotoras

• Public Health field staff

• Primary care clinics, including FQHCs, Rural Health Centers, correctional facility clinics, and urgent care clinics

TIER 3

• Specialty clinics

• Laboratory workers

• Dental/oral health clinics

• Pharmacy staff not working in settings at higher tiers

What if I'm not in any of those tiers and I'm over the age of 65+?

According to the San Bernardino COVID-19 website, residents age 65 plus may sign up to receive an email or text notification on when the COVID-19 vaccine is available for that age group.  If you need assistance signing up for notifications, please call the official COVID-19 hotline at (909) 387-3911 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
